Please find links below to help you research and find information about Great/Famous Canadians. I encourage you to start with these links and the print resources that are in the class before you go wild and crazy with your searching on the internet.

A website full of links about many famous and great Canadians that has been put together by another CBE school that did a similar project.

A good place to go to find out if someone famous is Canadian. This website has small amounts of information but it is a starting point.

A link to a wikipedia page about famous Canadians. Again, I would use this is a starting point. From here you can use some of the resources for each person to help you further your research.

Online Reference Centre – Links to large databases full of information. You will need to figure out which databases you should use that will help you with your research.

The Canadian Encyclopedia – It is exactly that, The Canadian Encyclopedia.

Canada online E-Library – Similar idea to the Student Research Centre

Grolier Online Passport – This will help you find sites with information about your person.

Some hints for how to research for this project:

Google Italian City States in general

Google your city state and the word Renaissance, NOT the specific thing you’re researching. So, for example, Google “Milan Renaissance” instead of “Milan government Renaissance.” The second search can be useful, but chances are you’ll get more results by searching the first way. You will need to read the resulting sites for information, and the benefit of this way of searching is that you might find information that you weren’t immediately looking for but that’s useful anyway.

In Google, you don’t need to include words like “in the” or “and.” Google excludes those from searches anyway.

You may also find some useful information by searching “Italian Renaissance.”

Some Good Websites

http://www.wider.unu.edu/publications/newsletter/articles/en_GB/07-09-brauer/

A little bit of information on security but you will likely need more.

http://academic.cengage.com/resource_uploads/downloads/0495570540_155694.pdf

Another little piece about security in general.

http://theborgias.wetpaint.com/page/The+Powerful+Families+of+Renaissance+Italy

A good website lots of information about ruling families for each City state.

http://www.visual-arts-cork.com/site/timeline.htm#renaissance

Emma found this site and it lists artists names, city, and date. Select a section to go to find more info.

http://www.webexhibits.org/feast/context/citystate.html

Contains information about Venetian art, music, and some information about the ruling families of several city states.

http://www.ucalgary.ca/applied_history/tutor/endmiddle/c-states.html

A website from the University of Calgary. The reading level on this website is fairly high. If you scroll down, you’ll find information about Florence, the Medici, and Milan.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Italian_citystates

Remember what we talked about regarding Wikipedia – check your information elsewhere!

http://www.mrdowling.com/704italy.html

General information about the city states in Italy. If you hit the “Next” button, you’ll get information about the Medicis, social classes, Renaissance art.

http://vlib.iue.it/carrie/texts/carrie_books/gilbert/03.html

A very text heavy site, but probably one of the best for information. Includes sections on Milan, Venice, Florence, Naples, and Rome.

http://theborgias.wetpaint.com/page/The+Italian+City-States

A descent site with information for the majority of the city states

http://www.learner.org/interactives/renaissance/

Information about the Renaissance Period but you might have to dig a bit to find information about Italian City States
